Hmmmm...
It has been two weeks since I last updated my journal, and more than two months since I got laid low with health problems. Time for an update.
Two weeks ago, on the evening of the 21st of June (known throughout the world as "Harry Potter 5 Day"), we went to Khader's birthday party, where we had a blast. Heeding my plaintive cry, Khader served pizza in gargantuan quantities - we even got to take some home! Burp!
However, throughout the party, I felt a bit "duh", like a cloud was settling on my head. By the next day, I felt weak, and the next day I was down with a viral fever that kept me housebound for the next two weeks. :(
There was a dengue fever scare, but my doctor said that I didn't have it. However a lot of people in my area did have it - God knows how I escaped it!
Spent the time catching up with writing (catch the July 1 issue of Dataquest, for which I wrote the cover story on WiFi) and reading (Harry Potter).
Fabmall came up trumps by delivering the Potter book right on time on the 21st (though I could hand it to Anjali only after Khader's party, else she would have refused to go).
I later found out that most (all?) people who had ordered it online received the book only days later, so I was thrilled that I was special enough to FM to receive it on the day the book was released.
During this time I also received the 5 DVD "Beatles Anthology" set - something I have been dying to own, and finally got thanks to friend Sanjay Ramaswamy. I now own the Beatles Anthology audio CD set (6 CDs!), the book (which is HUGE!) and now the video (11 hours of prime Beatles footage!) - I am happy as a pig in the mud!
An almost-tragedy had a happy end - sort of. Honey the Cat disappeared one night, and didn't show up again. Shubha, Anjali and I were heartbroken - we have lost two cats before. Even Honey's little brother (Judo, our German shepherd) moped around day in and day out. Honey is sterilized, so it wasn't the usual cat-in-season thing.
We finally resigned ourselves that she was gone, probably dead. Then, two weeks later, Anjali suddenly jumped up and ran into the kitchen - where a very thin and very hungry Honey sat mewing. Tears of joy all around, and Judo was beside himself with delight.
Honey disappeared again shortly afterwards, and now shows up only every 2-3 days. Clearly, she has found a home elsewhere - she probably finds the presence of her daughter Cookie and Judo's son Nicky too much to handle. But at least we know she is alive and well, and are glad she comes to visit us every now and then.
Today I am back in office after a long time. It's good to have some real bandwith again. I recently dumped my cable internet provider (RMV Communication) after their thoroughly unprofessional behaviour and useless service, which climaxed with "what did you expect for Rs.700?" - which was the last straw. RMV is a ZeeNext franchisee - I only hope that customers of other ZeeNext franchisees don't experience this kind of agony!
This week, Private Project #1 goes live - watch this space.
