 The Christmas Report[2007-12-25 20:01:31]
Ah well, it's Christmas. Joy to the world, peace and harmony to all!

It's been an unusual one for me this year.

After the unbelievable success of FOSS.IN/2007, I went from high-frantic-activity-mode to almost completely comatose in a matter of days. Instead of the planned short and much needed holiday to Goa that I had been secretly hatching, I find myself sitting at home 24x7, dealing with things I'd rather not be dealing with.

To make a long story short - on day 1 of FOSS.IN, I got hit brutally by a relapse of the Iritis (Anterior Uveitis) problem I faced in 2003 and 2004, causing me to miss the second day of the event completely, and instead spending it in hospital. My docs managed to get things kind of under control and I was able to attend the rest of the event, including the inauguration (though for the first time in seven years, I needed help - which I got from Kishore, without whom this event would have been over for me).

By the time the event came to an end, I thought the problem was more or less over. Hell, I felt and looked *good*! The event had gone swimmingly well otherwise, people were highly appreciative, blogs were overflowing with positive feedback, thousands of photos were flowing like torrents...

Turns out I was wrong, and by December 9th night I was worse off than ever before.

The next few weeks have been more or less hell. The medication I needed to take leaves me unbelievably weak. Just how weak was rammed home to me on the day I saw my daughter off at the bus stop, where I got yanked off my feet and dragged a bit up the road by my two dogs, like an eskimo sled...

So everything else was scrapped. No point going anywhere when you can barely see anything and are as weak as a kitten.

Since most of my friends were either out of town or otherwise busy, Christmas eve on the 24th found the wife, daughter, dogs, cat and me at home, with a nice home-cooked meal, a few gifts, a few phone calls, a few hugs, and that was it.

Today, monotony was broken by a trip to Gaurav's home, where his mom dished out the most incredible amount of high-quality, home-cooked food for us. I almost died and went to heaven in ecstasy!

But otherwise, this has been a rather strange end for a year that has otherwise seen a lot of things happening for me, both personally as well as on the professional front.

I shall write more later. There have been a few acquisitions (read - the gear-slut strikes again), and for those of you who have been following my mobile computing exploits over the past decade: you may be interested in the fact that at this point in time (and for the first time in 9 years), I am *completely* PalmOS-less.

More on all that in a while...
