Bush: Same Difference

“My inclination was to support the government and the war until proven wrong, and that only came later, as I realized we could not explain the mission, had no exit strategy, and did not seem to be fighting to win.”

–George W.Bush in his autobiography “A Charge to Keep: My Journey to the
White House”

Of course, he was speaking about Vietnam, not Iraq.

What can one say?

Mondays and other evils

Mondays are usually bad, but today took the cake.

We moved office last week, because we just couldn’t live with the issues at the old office (the temple noise, the constant not-so-nice smells emanating from the bakery on the ground floor, the blown out electric system that mysteriously manifested itself every year during festival season when the bakery needed more power than they had allocated, the sweltering heat of the non-insulated rooftop, etc.).

The new office is in a modern office block, and not too far away from my home. Nice place, about the same size as the old one. The problem is, of course, that we need to set it up, and until we do, life is chaos. Servers are down, phone links are still to come in, Internet connectivity not coming in till a week from now, etc.

In the meanwhile, the local electricity company decided that fibre optic cables are great conductors of electricity that kills people, and chopped off every cable they could find. Voila, no cable internet connectivity at home either for several days.

Linux Bangalore/2004

And here we go again – the process that revs up the engine of India’s largest annual Free and Open Source (FOSS) event has begun.

As of this morning, the Linux Bangalore/2004 site has been opened to the public, providing preliminary information about the event. As time goes by, more details will be added, and on December 1st, the three day event will see thousands of FOSS developers, users, admins, deployers and business people converging on Bangalore to learn, teach and generally have a good time.

Behind the scenes, the managers of the event are going to be working their butts off to make this event happen as smoothly as possible. Afterall, there is a rep to protect here – this is the FOURTH year in a row that we have conducted this event, and each time has been bigger and better.

All this, is, of course, the result of teamwork – not just the managers, but also the volunteers, the speakers, the sponsors, the exhibitors and of course the delegates.

If you want to get involved, check out the site, join the list and help us bring to life India’s largest community driven technology event.

The Da Vinci virus

OK, I simply have to put this down publicly:

It is unbelievable just how many times in the day someone or the other pops up in my IM window or my Inbox, asking me whether I have read this book. Note that for some strange reason, no one ever *recommends* that I read it, as in “I think you will enjoy this book” – I am always asked whether I have read it, as in “Hey, have you read The Da Vinci Code?”
