During last Saturday’s Team FOSS.IN meeting, we were reviewing some of the mail we had received, and found a number of mails asking a question that went something like this:
“Since Atul is ill, and since FOSS.IN is basically his baby, is the event happening at all?”
The answer to this is simple, and most long term FOSS.IN fans already know it, but for the benefit of those new to the event:
FOSS.IN is not run by a single person, but by a team of dedicated volunteers (called Team FOSS.IN), many of whom have been at it for more than a decade. While I play a role in the team, and was the team lead for many years, I am by no stretch of imagination the only one making the event happen.
In fact, in 2009, I stepped down from my role as team lead, and handed over charge to Kishore Bhargava, who has led the team ever since, and is also leading the team’s efforts for this year’s event.
It is true that the team stumbled during August and September when my illness was discovered and the team temporarily became “Team Atul’s Privacy” (yes, unsurprisingly, my “inner circle” includes the members of Team FOSS.IN).
But things are back on track, as you will see this week. Yes, my already limited role in the team will be even more limited this year, but I can assure you that this will in no way affect the event.
FOSS.IN/2012 is definitely happening, so you can look forward to it.
See you all at FOSS.IN/2012!
